Sulaminen ja palaminen, hajottaminen ja yhteen liitt\u00e4minen. N\u00e4m\u00e4 rinnakkaiset\/vastakkaiset toiminnat ovat muovanneet Leena Kankaan n\u00e4yttelyn teoksia. Esill\u00e4 on sulamisen kehi\u00e4, uudeksi leikeltyj\u00e4 maisemia ja monia muita paperipohjaisia teoksia, joista useilla on aiemmin ollut erilainen muoto. Leena Kankaan ty\u00f6skentelyn yhten\u00e4 l\u00e4ht\u00f6kohtana on ollut oman vanhan teosmateriaalin uusiok\u00e4ytt\u00f6 sek\u00e4 konkreettisesti ett\u00e4 ideatasolla, k\u00e4sitteellisesti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leena Kangas: \u201dV\u00e4lin\u00e4yt\u00f6s on sana, joka ehk\u00e4 kuvaa t\u00e4t\u00e4 julkituloani parhaiten: alku ja keskikohta minulla on, mutta loppu viel\u00e4 puuttuu. N\u00e4yttely liittyy jatko-opintoihini*, on niiden taiteellisen ty\u00f6skentelyn osuus. Edess\u00e4 on viel\u00e4 lopputy\u00f6 \u2013 varsinaisen opinn\u00e4ytteen kirjoittaminen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kun vuosi sitten syksyll\u00e4 2023 aloitin opintoni, annoin opinn\u00e4ytteelleni nimen Maailma, paperi ja min\u00e4 \u2013 Voinko ottaa viel\u00e4 toisen paperin? <\/em>Suunnitelmani on tarkastella paperipohjaista taidetta luontokadon aikakaudella yhden kuvataiteilijan n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta, mutta laajempaa taustaa vasten ja osana aikalaiskeskustelua. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viime kuukaudet olen keskittynyt taiteelliseen ty\u00f6skentelyyn ja kaikki teoreettisempi on ollut tauolla. Olen halunnut antaa taiteelliselle ty\u00f6lle tilaa olla omanlaisensa ja my\u00f6s omavarainen ajattelun sek\u00e4 tiedon etsimisen ja l\u00f6yt\u00e4misen muoto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kun n\u00e4yttelyn j\u00e4lkeen palaan opinn\u00e4ytteeni kirjoittamisen pariin, on n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmani opinn\u00e4ytteeni suunnitelmaan varmasti muuttunut. N\u00e4yttelyn yhteydess\u00e4 toteutan Lesung-lukutilaisuuden, jossa k\u00e4yt\u00e4n p\u00e4\u00e4osin kev\u00e4ttalvella viimeistelem\u00e4ni suunnitelman tekstej\u00e4. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leena Kankaan n\u00e4yttelyyn liittyy kaksi tapahtumaa: Lesung \u2013 Lukutilaisuus perjantaina 18.10.2024 kello 18 ja Ty\u00f6paja sunnuntaina 27.10.2024 kello 16. Taiteilija on tavattavissa koko n\u00e4yttelyn ajan sen aukioloaikoina to\u2013pe 14\u201318, la\u2013su 12\u201316.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leena Kangas (s. 1963 Oulu) on oululainen kuvataiteilija. H\u00e4nen v\u00e4lineit\u00e4\u00e4n ovat maalaamisen ja piirt\u00e4misen menetelm\u00e4t, valokuvaus sek\u00e4 k\u00e4sitteelliset ja tilalliset teokset, joihin saattaa liitty\u00e4 my\u00f6s teksti\u00e4. H\u00e4n on ty\u00f6skennellyt paljon paperille ja paperin kanssa. Kangasta kiinnostavat muodot, v\u00e4rit ja variaatio sek\u00e4 yleisen ja henkil\u00f6kohtaisen kosketuskohdat ja kietoutuminen toisiinsa. Kysymys materiaalin alkuper\u00e4st\u00e4 (ekologiasta) on Kankaalle t\u00e4rke\u00e4. Toisaalta h\u00e4nen viimeaikojen teoksensa ovat usein olleet varsin aineettomia: hetken kasassa pysyvi\u00e4 h\u00e4iv\u00e4hdyksi\u00e4, jotka purkautuvat ja muuntuvat toiseksi esill\u00e4 olonsa j\u00e4lkeen. My\u00f6s vihkon muoto, pinot ja arkistot kiehtovat Kangasta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kangas on monipuolinen ammattilainen kuvataiteen kent\u00e4ll\u00e4 \u2013 taiteilijan ty\u00f6n rinnalla h\u00e4n on toiminut aktiivisesti kuvataidekriitikkona yli 18 vuotta. Vuosien varrella taiteilijan ja kriitikon identiteetit ovat sulautuneet toisiinsa, ja Kangas kokee kriitikon teht\u00e4v\u00e4n osaksi taiteellisen ty\u00f6ns\u00e4 kokonaisuutta. *Parhaillaan Leena Kangas suorittaa ylemp\u00e4\u00e4 ammattikorkeakoulututkintoa (YAMK) Taiteen uudet kontekstit -koulutusohjelmassa Turun Ammattikorkeakoulun Taideakatemiassa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Melting and burning, breaking down and putting together. These parallel\/opposite activities have shaped the art works of Leena Kangas exhibition. Exhibited are melting circles, re-cut landscapes and many other paper-based works, many of which have previously had different shape. One of the starting points of her work has been the reuse of her own old work material, both concretely and on an idea level, conceptually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leena Kangas says: \u201cInterlude is perhaps the word that best describes this public appearance of mine: I have a beginning and a middle, but the end is still missing. The exhibition is related to my postgraduate studies*, is artistic part of it. There is still the final work ahead \u2013 writing the actual thesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I started my studies a year ago in the fall of 2023, I named my thesis The world, paper and me \u2013 Can I take another piece of paper? <\/em>My intention is to examine paper-based art in the era of biodiversity loss from the perspective of one visual artist, but against a wider background and as part of contemporary discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last few months I’ve been focusing on artistic work and everything more theoretical has been on hiatus. I wanted to give space to my artistic practice to be its own kind and a self-sufficient form of thinking and searching and finding of the information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I return to writing my thesis after the exhibition, my perspective on the plan of it has certainly changed. In connection with the exhibition, I will have a Lesung \u2013 the reading session, where I will mainly use the texts of my thesis plan, that I finished in early spring.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two events related to the Leena Kangas’s exhibition: Leasung – Reading on Friday 18 October 2024 at 6 pm and Workshop on Sunday 27 October 2024 at 4 pm. The artist is present throughout the exhibition during its opening hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leena Kangas (b. 1963 Oulu) is a visual artist from Oulu. Her art practice includes the methods of painting and drawing, photography, and conceptual and spatial works, which may also include text. She has worked a lot on and with paper. The shapes, colors and variation interest her, as well as general and personal contact points and intertwining. The question of the material’s origin (ecology) is important to her. On the other hand, her recent works have often been quite immaterial: fleeting glimpses that unravel and transform into another after being exhibited. The shape of the notebook, stacks and archives also fascinate her. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leena Kangas is a versatile professional in the field of visual arts – alongside her work as an artist, she has been active as a visual art critic for over 18 years. Over the years, the identities of artist and critic have merged, and she sees that the role of critic is part of the whole of her artistic work. *Leena Kangas is currently completing an upper university of applied sciences degree (YAMK) at the Art Academy of the Turku University of Applied Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
