Flash Fiction from Art Hub Pikisaari
Art Hub Pikisaari is proudly presenting prose and scriptwriter Randi Lindholm Hansen based in Copenhagen, Denmark. In Autumn 2023 Randi was artist-in-residence in Art Hub Pikisaari in Oulu. During her residency at Art Hub Pikisaari Randi Lindholm Hansen worked on her collection of flash fiction and prose poems titled The Island Collection.
Randi writes to generate empathy in an apathetic world, and her work is anchored in the assertion that it is impossible to hate anyone whose story you know. Randi uses her writing to explore and expose humanity. She uses comedy to deflate power structures and disclose hypocrisy and injustice. Randi’s work explores mundanity and demonstrates a curious fascination with the intimate and peculiar. Randi insists on the small, the fragile, the insignificant as she observes the world through a microcosmic lens. There is undeniable humour in the mundane, in human foolishness and inadequacy, and in the deadpan nature of existence itself.
The focus of Randi Lindholm Hansen’s work at Art Hub Pikisaari was exploring and challenging the boundaries of the text format and its potential for performativity. An essential part was also presenting and sharing unfinished work with the surrounding community. Within a residency at Art Hub Pikisaari Randi kindly shared curious and inspiring ways to read, to write and to listen. Randi also performed excerpts from the Island Collection at the New Literature Festival organized by the Oulu Writers Association in Kulttuuritalo Valve.
Randi Lindholm Hansen holds an MA in Scriptwriting from Goldsmiths (UK) and a BA in English Studies & Creative Writing from Malmö University (SE) and Screenwriting & Film Studies from Bahçeşehir University (TR). Though her work centers around the script format and writing for film and tv, she works across many platforms. Her practice includes writing for audio, stage, and short form prose as well as translating, teaching, story- and script editing and consulting. Randi is a member of the artist collectives AWFUL and Bureau for Listening. www.randilindholm.com
